Sun Nov 24 04:48:56 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra BJP Sweeps Assembly Elections; Congress Suffers Major Setback

**Mumbai, India** – The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, winning over 230 of the 288 seats. This marks a significant defeat for the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition.

While the BJP’s victory was decisive, with the party winning 123 seats and leading in 9 more, the Congress suffered a major blow. Prominent Congress leaders faced defeat, including Balasaheb Thorat (losing by 10,560 votes) and Prithiviraj Chavan (losing by 39,355 votes). Only Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole maintained a slim lead (208 votes) in the Sakoli constituency as of the final round of counting.

The NCP, another key member of the MVA, also experienced a significant decline in its seat count. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala described the results as “unbelievable,” highlighting the unexpected scale of the BJP’s victory.

Speculation is rife regarding the swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, with Monday being a potential date, possibly at the Wankhede Stadium, mirroring the location of his previous swearing-in ten years ago. The BJP’s stunning win has shifted the focus to Fadnavis and his role in shaping the future of Maharashtra’s governance.
