Mumbai, November 24 – The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, winning over 220 seats in the 288-member assembly. However, the results revealed several incredibly close races, highlighting the intense competition in certain constituencies.
Several key victories were secured by razor-thin margins. AIMIM’s Mufti Mohammad Ismail Abdul Khalique won Malegaon Central by a mere 162 votes, while Congress state president Nana Patole triumphed in Sakoli by only 208 votes. In other nail-biting finishes, BJP’s Manda Mhatre won Belapur by 377 votes and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Gaikwad secured Buldhana by 841 votes. Other close contests included NCP’s Dilip Walse Patil (Ambegaon) and Shiv Sena’s Tanaji Sawant (Paranda), who won by 1,523 and 1,509 votes respectively. Even Sharad Pawar’s grandnephew faced a tight contest, winning Karjat-Jamkhed by a relatively narrow 1,243 votes.
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), suffered a significant defeat, winning only 49 seats. The election results, announced on November 23rd, showcased the dominance of the Mahayuti alliance, composed of the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), and Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP. The narrow victories in several constituencies, however, underscore the competitiveness of the election despite the overall sweeping victory for the Mahayuti.
