**Mumbai, India** – In a stunning upset in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) decisively defeated Sharad Pawar’s faction, winning 29 more seats. Ajit Pawar’s NCP secured a total of 41 seats, while Sharad Pawar’s faction managed only 10, despite fielding 86 candidates. Although Sharad Pawar’s group won six seats against Ajit Pawar’s faction, the overall victory margin highlights a significant split within the NCP.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed the results as a “tremendous victory,” while Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut expressed skepticism, calling it a “big conspiracy” and not a true reflection of public mandate. The results also come amidst celebrations at the JMM office in Jharkhand, where the INDIA alliance is currently leading in the ongoing state assembly elections.
