Sat Nov 23 21:25:28 UTC 2024: ## Mahayuti Coalition Sweeps Pune District in Maharashtra Assembly Elections

**Pune, Maharashtra –** The Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, secured a decisive victory in the Pune district during the Maharashtra Assembly elections, according to trends from the Election Commission of India. The results, announced on November 23rd, mark a contrast to the BJP’s dominance in previous Lok Sabha elections in the region. While the BJP had won all three previous Lok Sabha seats in Pune, the Assembly elections saw a more diverse outcome across the district’s 21 constituencies.

The elections, held in a single phase on November 20th, saw a record 65% voter turnout statewide, exceeding 1995 levels. Pune district itself recorded a 61% turnout, higher than the 2019 figure. Turnout varied significantly across constituencies, with Indapur reporting the highest (76.10%) and Hadapsar the lowest (50.11%).

Key wins for the Mahayuti included victories in Purandar (Shiv Sena), and several seats in Pune city proper. Notable individual victories include Ajit Pawar’s return as MLA for Baramati, despite his NCP faction facing competition from a breakaway NCP group.

The elections witnessed numerous close contests and multi-party battles, with candidates from various parties including the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), VBA, BSP, and several smaller regional parties contesting. Several constituencies saw battles within the NCP between the Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar factions. While many results saw large margins of victory, some were extremely close, highlighting the competitiveness of several races.

The results in Pune reflect a complex political landscape, with the Mahayuti coalition’s success in the Assembly elections contrasting with the BJP’s previous dominance in Lok Sabha contests within the same geographical area. The high voter turnout underscores the significance of these elections for the people of Pune and Maharashtra.
