**Las Vegas, NV –** The Las Vegas Strip is set to shut down again this weekend for the second running of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, promising an even bigger spectacle than last year’s inaugural event. The race, airing live on Sky Sports F1, could see Max Verstappen clinch his fourth consecutive world championship title.
Last year’s race had a significant impact on the city, generating a staggering $1.5 billion in economic impact and six times the usual yearly publicity for Las Vegas. Lori Nelson-Kraft, senior vice-president of corporate affairs for the Grand Prix, highlighted the event’s success in attracting a global audience and boosting international tourism. The race also generated $77 million in local and state taxes, surpassing even the Super Bowl’s tax revenue for the area.
Organizers have addressed concerns raised after the inaugural event, focusing on minimizing disruption for residents and businesses. This year, circuit installation time has been reduced by 65%, with most work conducted overnight. Improvements include a 50% reduction in the size of a temporary pedestrian bridge that caused access issues last year, and the launch of an interactive online roadwork map and a twice-weekly texting program to keep residents informed.
While last year saw a delay due to a loose drain cover damaging Carlos Sainz’s car, Nelson-Kraft assures that all utility lids have been rigorously secured. The 3.8-mile track, featuring a high-speed section down the Strip, remains unchanged. New additions for this year include the Ferrari Challenge support event and a free two-day fan experience on the Strip, offering interactive activities and opportunities to engage with F1.
Despite some initial criticism from Verstappen regarding the event’s razzmatazz, organizers expect another massive turnout of around 300,000 fans. The race promises thrilling competition, with Verstappen vying for the championship against Lando Norris. Nelson-Kraft concluded, “It’s going to be a terrific fan experience and we can’t wait to see what the teams and the drivers do.” The Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend begins Thursday, November 22nd, with practice sessions and qualifying leading up to the main race on Sunday at 6 am UK time.
