Sun Nov 24 16:04:03 UTC 2024: ## La Liga President Attacks Real Madrid’s Perez After Heated Assembly

MADRID, SPAIN – A public spat erupted between La Liga president Javier Tebas and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, escalating a long-running feud. Tebas took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize Perez following a Real Madrid General Assembly on Sunday.

Perez, during the assembly, criticized La Liga’s 2021 CVC investment deal, calling it an “expropriation” of club assets. He also voiced his displeasure over the Ballon d’Or award, arguing that Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. should have won instead of Manchester City’s Rodri. Perez announced plans to propose a corporate restructuring at a future assembly to better protect Real Madrid’s interests and member ownership.

Tebas responded sharply, dismissing Perez’s claims and accusing him of maintaining a “messianic” self-image as a football savior, unsupported by the industry. He highlighted that recent criticisms of La Liga, vehemently defended by Real Madrid’s Jose Angel Sanchez, were soundly rejected by a 42-member assembly vote (3 in favor). Tebas accused Perez of deception, alleging “lies, phantom amendments, and half-truths,” while acknowledging Perez’s apparent political influence.

The exchange unfolded hours before Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Leganes. A victory would put Real Madrid within one point of league leaders, FC Barcelona.
