Sun Nov 24 08:33:45 UTC 2024: ## INDIA Bloc Sweeps Jharkhand Assembly Elections

**Ranchi, Jharkhand –** Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA alliance secured a resounding victory in the Jharkhand Assembly elections, winning 56 of the 81 seats. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) trailed significantly with only 24 seats. Vote counting, which began at 8 am on November 23rd, concluded by evening, defying several exit polls that predicted an NDA win.

The JMM emerged as the largest party within the INDIA bloc, which also includes the Indian National Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation). The NDA comprised the BJP, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). Smaller parties secured the remaining seats.

The election, held in two phases on November 13th and 20th, saw a record voter turnout of 67.74%, the highest since the state’s formation in 2000. This victory marks the first time in 24 years that an incumbent government has been re-elected in Jharkhand, breaking a long-standing trend of anti-incumbency.

Following the results, BJP national president J.P. Nadda stated the party would play a constructive opposition role. Meanwhile, JMM leader Ramdas Soren thanked the people of Jharkhand for their support. Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed gratitude for the win and acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also extended his thanks to voters and party workers.

The high voter turnout, particularly among women, was noted by election officials. Several key figures, including CM Soren and his family members, secured victories. The win represents a significant boost for the INDIA bloc ahead of future elections.
