Sat Nov 23 22:08:02 UTC 2024: ## Hemant Soren’s JMM Sweeps Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Rejecting BJP’s Infiltration Narrative
**Ranchi, Jharkhand –** Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has secured a resounding victory in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, winning a two-thirds majority in the 81-member assembly. The JMM-led INDIA bloc is projected to win over 56 seats, a significant rebuke to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s campaign strategy.
The BJP, which heavily relied on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to lead its campaign, focused heavily on the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration. This central theme, however, failed to resonate with voters, resulting in a devastating defeat for the party, which is projected to win only around 24 seats. Sarma himself expressed disappointment at the results, while congratulating Soren and acknowledging the people’s mandate.
Despite a higher vote share than the JMM, the BJP’s campaign, which also criticized Soren’s governance, fell short of expectations. The results stand in stark contrast to the BJP’s recent success in Maharashtra.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), contesting only six seats, surprisingly won four, defeating sitting BJP MLAs. This unexpected outcome further contributed to the BJP’s loss.
Hemant Soren expressed gratitude to the people of Jharkhand for their support, describing the results as a testament to the state’s democratic process. He also emphasized the coalition’s commitment to continuing to govern Jharkhand.
The victory marks the JMM’s best-ever performance and secures a second consecutive term for Soren as chief minister. While specific seat counts are still being finalized, the results represent a clear mandate in favor of the JMM-led INDIA alliance and its development agenda, rejecting the BJP’s focus on immigration concerns.
