**Ranchi, Jharkhand:** Incumbent Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has secured a resounding victory in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, according to the latest trends. The BJP will remain in opposition. The counting of votes across all 81 assembly seats concluded under tight security. The election saw a 67.74% voter turnout, with women outnumbering men at the polls. A total of 176,81,007 voters exercised their franchise, including 91,16,321 women and 85,64,524 men.
The election was a closely fought contest between the INDIA alliance and the NDA. Key victories for the JMM-led coalition include Hemant Soren’s win in Barhet, his traditional seat. Other notable wins include Congress securing 16 seats, and JMM candidate Naresh Prasad Singh’s victory in Bishrampur by a margin of over 14,000 votes. Kalpana Murmu Soren, wife of Hemant Soren, won the Gandey seat by a margin of 16,960 votes.
A meeting of newly elected MLAs from the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) will be held on November 24th at 11:00 AM at the Chief Minister’s residence, where Hemant Soren is expected to be elected as the leader of the legislative party and stake claim to form the government. Soren expressed his gratitude on social media, attributing the victory to the blessings of his mentors and mother. The election saw high-profile contests, including former Chief Ministers Babulal Marandi and Raghubar Das’ relatives contesting the elections.
