Sun Nov 24 02:54:42 UTC 2024: ## BJP Projected to Win Close Contest in Jharkhand Assembly By-Elections
**Ranchi, Jharkhand –** Preliminary results suggest a close contest in the recent Jharkhand Assembly by-elections, with the BJP projected to secure several key seats. The races were largely fought between the BJP and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
A significant factor in several constituencies appears to be anti-incumbency sentiment. This was particularly evident in the Dumri seat, where BJP candidate Jaisram Mahato is reported to have defeated JMM’s Baby Devi. Notably, JMM candidate Kedar Hazra, who previously won on a BJP ticket in 2014 and 2019, faced a challenging campaign, potentially impacted by public anger over a leaked CGLE exam paper. This anger among youth is believed to have affected his vote share.
While the BJP is expected to perform strongly overall, the races were fiercely contested. Other closely watched seats included Gandey, where the contest between Kalpana Sorens and Muria Devi remained tight, and Dhanwar, where Babulal Marandi’s influence seems to have been a major factor resulting in a one-sided victory. Final results are still awaited for some constituencies.
