**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia** – The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction kicked off today in Jeddah with a flurry of high-stakes bidding wars and several record-breaking deals. The first day saw 84 players go under the hammer, with some of the biggest names in cricket commanding eye-watering sums.

Several players shattered previous auction records. Shreyas Iyer was sold to Punjab Kings for a staggering Rs 26.75 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Rishabh Pant was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore, securing the title of the most expensive player in IPL history. Other significant purchases included Jos Buttler (Rs 15.75 crore, Gujarat Titans), Yuzvendra Chahal (Rs 18 crore, Punjab Kings), and KL Rahul (Rs 14 crore, Delhi Capitals).

Several teams engaged in intense bidding battles. The contest for Mohammed Siraj saw Gujarat Titans eventually secure the pacer for Rs 12.25 crore after a fierce battle with Punjab Kings. Similarly, the acquisition of Arshdeep Singh by Punjab Kings, using their RTM card, resulted in an Rs 18 crore price tag.

While some marquee players fetched astronomical prices, others like David Warner went unsold. The auction showcased a diverse range of talent, with both capped and uncapped players finding new homes.

The auction also saw several teams utilize their Right-to-Match (RTM) cards strategically, adding another layer of intrigue to the proceedings.
