**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:** The Mumbai Indians have secured the services of experienced New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult for a hefty ₹12.5 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Boult, who was released by the Rajasthan Royals after a season where he took 16 wickets, had set his base price at ₹2 crore. His acquisition marks a return to the five-time champions for Boult, who was previously a member of their 2020 title-winning squad.

Boult’s performance in IPL 2024 saw him claim 16 wickets at an average of 27.68 and an economy rate of 8.30, though he was outperformed by teammates Avesh Khan (19 wickets) and Yuzvendra Chahal (18 wickets). However, he led all bowlers with 12 Powerplay wickets, showcasing his effectiveness in the crucial opening stages of an innings.

This is Boult’s fifth IPL franchise. He previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. His overall IPL record is impressive, boasting 121 wickets in 104 matches at an average of 26.69. He’s also the only overseas bowler with over 50 Powerplay wickets in IPL history, accumulating 62 wickets in this phase at an economy rate of 7.05.
