Sun Nov 24 14:20:00 UTC 2024: ## IPL 2025 Mega Auction Shatters Records in Jeddah

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia** – The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction concluded in Jeddah, setting new records and reshaping team dynamics for the upcoming season. Held over two days at the Abady Al-Johar Arena, the auction saw 10 teams compete for 577 players – 367 Indian and 210 overseas – to fill 204 slots, including 70 reserved for international talent.

Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history, acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants for a staggering ₹27 crore. This broke the record previously held by Shreyas Iyer, who was purchased by the Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore. The minimum base price was ₹30 lakh, while the maximum was ₹2 crore.

Each team had a budget of ₹120 crore to build a squad of 18 to 25 players, with a maximum of eight overseas players allowed. Teams could retain up to six players prior to the auction, influencing their auction budgets significantly. For instance, Punjab Kings, retaining only two players, entered the auction with a massive ₹110.5 crore purse and four Right to Match (RTM) cards. In contrast, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, having retained their full quota of six players, started with significantly smaller budgets of ₹41 crore and ₹51 crore respectively, and no RTM cards.

The auction provided a crucial opportunity for teams to rebuild their squads for the next three seasons, marking the beginning of a new chapter in IPL history. Further details regarding the complete team compositions and player acquisitions are expected to be released shortly.
