**Hyderabad, India** – The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured the services of Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami for a hefty ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) in the IPL 2025 auction. The bidding war for Shami was intense, with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also vying for his signature. Gujarat Titans, Shami’s previous team, declined to use their Right to Match (RTM) card.
Shami’s acquisition marks a significant addition to SRH’s bowling attack. The bidding initially saw KKR making the first move, followed by CSK reaching ₹8 crore before withdrawing. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) briefly entered the fray, but ultimately bowed out at ₹9.5 crore. KKR made a final bid of ₹9.75 crore before SRH secured the bowler.
In other notable auction news, South African batsman David Miller was purchased by LSG for ₹7.5 crore. Miller, whose base price was ₹1.5 crore, saw a bidding battle between Gujarat and Bangalore before LSG swooped in at the last moment.
Following the acquisitions, SRH has ₹35 crore remaining in their purse, while LSG holds ₹34.5 crore. Shami missed IPL 2024 due to injury, while Miller scored 210 runs in 9 matches last season.
The auction also saw Shreyas Iyer become the most expensive player, purchased by Punjab Kings for a staggering ₹26.75 crore. Delhi Capitals put up a strong fight for Iyer until the end.
