Sun Nov 24 08:07:12 UTC 2024: ## Rahul and Jaiswal’s Record-Breaking Partnership Dominates Day 2 in Perth Test

**Perth, Australia:** India took firm control of the first Test against Australia on day two, thanks to a monumental opening partnership between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The pair put on an unbeaten 172-run stand, leaving India 172/0 at stumps and boasting a commanding 218-run lead. Jaiswal ended the day on 90 not out, while Rahul remained unbeaten on 62.

This partnership marks a significant achievement in the history of Indo-Australian Test cricket. It’s the first time in 38 years that an Indian opening pair has amassed a partnership exceeding 170 runs in Australia, surpassing the previous record of 191 runs set by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth in Melbourne in 1986.

This is also only the fourth instance of both Indian openers scoring half-centuries in Australia. Previous occurrences were in 1981 (Gavaskar and Chauhan), 1985 (Gavaskar and Srikkanth), and 1986 (Gavaskar and Srikkanth – both scoring centuries in that match). Rahul and Jaiswal’s unbroken partnership continues to threaten further records as the match progresses. India will be hoping to extend their advantage on day three.
