Sat Nov 23 18:24:36 UTC 2024: ## Priyanka Gandhi Wins Wayanad Bypoll in Landslide Victory

**Kerala, India** – Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has secured a resounding victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, marking a successful electoral debut for the Congress leader. Gandhi garnered over 6.22 lakh votes, defeating CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri (2.11 lakh votes) and BJP’s Navya Haridas (1.09 lakh votes) by a margin of over 4.1 lakh votes. This surpasses her brother Rahul Gandhi’s previous record margin in the constituency.

The win comes despite a lower than expected voter turnout of approximately 65%, a decrease from the 74% recorded in the April Lok Sabha elections and significantly lower than the 80%+ turnout seen in 2019. The byelection was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi chose to retain his Rae Bareli seat following his victory in both constituencies earlier this year.

The Wayanad bypoll was one of several elections held across India, including 48 assembly seats in 14 states and another Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra. Rahul Gandhi actively campaigned for his sister, highlighting her potential to connect with the people of Wayanad. The results signal a strong showing for the Congress party in the constituency.
