Sat Nov 23 20:30:08 UTC 2024: ## Jharkhand’s Ruling Coalition Scores Landslide Victory in State Assembly Elections

**Ranchi, Jharkhand – November 24, 2024** – In a stunning upset, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA coalition secured a resounding victory in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, not only retaining power but also significantly expanding its majority. The coalition increased its seat count by nine and its vote share by nine percentage points compared to the 2019 elections.

The JMM itself achieved a remarkable 79% strike rate, winning 34 out of 43 contested seats. The success wasn’t limited to the JMM; its allies also performed strongly, indicating effective seat allocation within the INDIA bloc. In stark contrast, the BJP-led alliance’s performance was lackluster, with its key ally, the AJSUP, winning only one out of ten seats contested.

While the BJP-led NDA coalition managed to win in urban areas (49% vote share compared to the INDIA bloc’s 40.4%), the INDIA bloc dominated in rural regions, with its vote share increasing as the areas became more rural.

The INDIA bloc’s most significant achievement was its performance in the northeastern Santhal Parganaa region bordering West Bengal, where it secured a commanding 52.2% vote share and won 17 out of 18 seats. This victory is particularly notable given the BJP’s strong emphasis on “infiltration from Bangladesh” in this region. The INDIA bloc also achieved significant gains in the Kolhan and Palamu regions.

The INDIA coalition’s dominance extended to Scheduled Tribe (ST) reserved seats, where it won 27 out of 28 seats and secured 50.7% of the vote. The coalition also outperformed the NDA in Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seats, winning five out of nine. While the NDA gained two seats in unreserved constituencies, the INDIA bloc still secured a larger number of seats in this category. The results point to a clear shift in voter preference towards the INDIA coalition across various demographics.
