Sun Nov 24 03:36:01 UTC 2024: ## Aditya Thackeray Wins Worli Seat in Maharashtra Assembly Elections
**Mumbai, November 23:** Aditya Thackeray, of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction, has secured victory in the Worli Assembly constituency, according to the Election Commission of India. This marks a significant win for Thackeray, who faced stiff competition from Milind Deora, a former Congress member now aligned with the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena.
Thackeray, who previously held the seat since 2019, retained his position despite a challenging campaign. His opponent, Deora, leveraged criticism of Thackeray’s tenure, citing delays in projects like the Mumbai Metro and the Vadhvan port, alleging losses in the billions of rupees for the state. Deora aimed to sway affluent residents and the middle class, a key demographic in Worli.
However, Thackeray’s youth-focused policies, including his work on banning single-use plastics and protecting the Aarey forest, resonated with voters. He also campaigned on a platform addressing unemployment and criticizing the ruling Mahayuti alliance’s economic policies.
The race also included Sandeep Deshpande of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), aiming to attract Marathi voters. Worli’s diverse electorate, encompassing high-rise residents and those in older housing, saw a voter turnout of approximately 52.78%. The final results mark a key victory in the broader battle between the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.
