CHENNAI, November 24, 2024 – The Sir Ramaswami Mudaliar Higher Secondary School (SRMHSS) in Ambattur is celebrating its rich history with a reunion of alumni on November 24th. The event marks not only a nostalgic gathering but also the launch of a significant initiative by the newly formed SRMHSS Alumni Association.
Established in 1957, SRMHSS played a crucial role in providing education to Ambattur residents during a time when access to quality schooling was limited. Many students’ parents worked in nearby factories, including the Tube Investments of India and Dunlop. The school, built on a 22-acre site, honors the memory of Arcot Ramaswami Mudaliar, a key figure in the growth of Tube Investments.
The alumni association, spearheaded by members of the 1979 batch, has already started giving back to the school. This year, they’ve implemented a scholarship program funding the education of 13 deserving students, prioritizing those from economically disadvantaged single-mother households. The association is committed to transparent funding, accepting donations only from alumni and educational non-profits.
The school boasts a distinguished list of alumni, including scientists, police commissioners, sports champions, doctors, film professionals, and politicians, underscoring its lasting impact on the community. The alumni association plans to further expand its initiatives, strengthening ties between former students and continuing to support the school’s growth.
