Sun Nov 24 13:58:44 UTC 2024: ## Ajit Pawar Wins Baramati Seat by Landslide, Consolidates Power

**Pune, Maharashtra –** Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has secured a resounding victory in the recent state assembly elections, defeating his nephew, Yugendra Pawar, by over 100,000 votes in his family stronghold of Baramati. This marks his eighth consecutive win in the constituency. Pawar received 181,132 votes compared to Yugendra’s 80,233.

The victory solidifies Pawar’s position within the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, particularly after a tumultuous year following his rebellion against his uncle, Sharad Pawar, founder of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This win demonstrates Pawar’s ability to overcome the fallout from his actions and maintain a strong hold on his political base.

Despite speculation about the end of his political career and recent setbacks, including his wife’s unsuccessful Lok Sabha bid earlier this year against Sharad Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar’s performance has been described as a remarkable display of political acumen. The NCP, despite its poor showing in the recent Lok Sabha elections, secured 41 out of 59 contested assembly seats, achieving a vote share of 9.01%.

Pawar’s political journey began in 1982, following in the footsteps of his uncle, Sharad Pawar. He served in various ministerial roles, including crucial portfolios like irrigation and finance, and held the position of Deputy Chief Minister on three separate occasions. His ambitions to become Chief Minister remain unfulfilled.

His recent victory is seen as a significant boost to his political future and his role within the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. The considerable margin of victory in his family’s traditional stronghold further emphasizes his enduring influence in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
