**Mumbai, India** – The Maha Yuti alliance has achieved a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, decisively defeating the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Preliminary results indicate a stunning win for Maha Yuti with 234 seats, compared to just 50 for the Maha Vikas Aghadi.

The BJP secured 132 seats, while the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena won 57 and the Ajit Pawar faction of NCP won 41. A key highlight is Ajit Pawar’s victory, securing a significant win over his uncle, Sharad Pawar’s faction of the NCP. In direct contests between the two NCP factions across 35 seats, Ajit Pawar’s faction won 29, leaving Sharad Pawar’s faction with only 6. This victory strengthens Ajit Pawar’s claim to leadership of the Nationalist Congress Party.

The Shinde faction of Shiv Sena also emerged victorious, winning 57 out of 81 contested seats. In head-to-head contests against the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena across 50 seats, the Shinde faction won 36, compared to 14 for the Thackeray faction. The Shinde Sena achieved a vote share of 12.38%, outperforming the Uddhav Thackeray faction’s 9.96%.

The news of the election results comes as the second day of the India-Australia Test match concluded with Australia reaching 172/0, still trailing India by 44 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets in the first innings, bundling out Australia for 104.
