MUMBAI, INDIA – NCP leader Ajit Pawar sidestepped questions regarding the future of his uncle and party chief Sharad Pawar following the NCP’s disappointing performance in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections. The party secured only 10 seats, raising concerns about Sharad Pawar’s political standing and prompting speculation about potential realignments within the party.

When pressed on whether the result casts doubt on Sharad Pawar’s political future and if he would rejoin him, Ajit Pawar refused to comment directly. He stated that he prefers to focus on forming the government before addressing such speculations, adding that people often make various claims and that his actions would precede any declarations about future alliances.

Ajit Pawar defended the NCP’s performance, highlighting the success of their “Jan Samman Yatra” campaign and claiming a strong strike rate considering the number of seats contested. He attributed the BJP and Shiv Sena’s strong showings, in part, to initiatives like the “Ladki Behan Yojana” and loan waivers for farmers. He also emphasized that the party had learned from their losses in the Lok Sabha elections and corrected their mistakes.

Pawar also addressed his own electoral performance in Baramati, highlighting his improved vote share compared to the Lok Sabha elections. He attributed his success to the voters focusing on development issues instead of emotional appeals.
