Sat Nov 23 12:07:48 UTC 2024: ## Priyanka Gandhi Wins Wayanad By-election in Landslide Victory
**Wayanad, Kerala –** Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has secured a resounding victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, marking her maiden electoral win. The Congress leader surpassed even her brother, Rahul Gandhi’s, previous vote margin in the constituency. With over 622,000 votes, she defeated Sathyan Mokeri of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) by a margin exceeding 410,000 votes. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, Navya Haridas, trailed significantly.
Gandhi’s win solidifies the Congress’s hold on the traditionally Congress-leaning constituency, which her brother vacated after winning Rae Bareilly. The by-election, however, saw the lowest voter turnout in Wayanad’s history at 64.72%, significantly lower than the 74% recorded during the general elections earlier this year.
The Congress and its ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), had predicted a landslide victory for Gandhi, and the results exceeded even their expectations. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed confidence in Gandhi’s strong showing before the final tally was announced.
The Wayanad by-election attracted national attention due to the high-profile candidature of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and its significance as a key seat in Kerala’s political landscape. Sixteen candidates contested the election.
