**Rajkot, India –** Left-handed batsman Tilak Varma continued his meteoric rise in the cricketing world, achieving a remarkable feat on Saturday. The 22-year-old Hyderabad captain smashed a breathtaking 151 off just 67 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Meghalaya, becoming the first batter ever to score three consecutive T20 centuries.
Varma’s innings, which included 14 fours and 10 sixes, helped Hyderabad post a commanding 248/4. He also set a new record for the highest individual score in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, surpassing Shreyas Iyer’s previous best of 147. His half-century came off just 28 balls, and he reached his century in only 51 deliveries.
This incredible performance follows Varma’s back-to-back T20I centuries against South Africa, making him only the second Indian to achieve this feat (after Sanju Samson). His South Africa performance earned him the Player of the Series award and a 69-place jump in the ICC T20I batting rankings. He now sits at number three, behind only Travis Head and Phil Salt.
Varma, who is nearing 3000 T20 runs with four centuries in the format, expressed his elation after the match, stating, “Nothing to say right now, presently there’s a lot of emotion inside me. Really, thanks for the opportunity, that’s what I can say to the team. It feels very nice to be here. Never thought I’ll score back-to-back hundreds, especially in a T20, especially against a challenging South Africa side.” His continued success solidifies his position as one of India’s most exciting young talents.
