**TIRUPATTUR, Tamil Nadu –** A 62-year-old man, identified as S. Vasanth, was arrested on Saturday for cultivating ganja (cannabis) plants in his backyard near Jolarpet town in Tirupattur district, Tamil Nadu. Police, acting on a tip-off, discovered the plants, measuring six to seven feet tall, during a search of Vasanth’s residence.
Vasanth claimed he had been growing the ganja for several months, using the leaves in his food believing them to have medicinal properties. He stated he was unaware that cultivating ganja was illegal and that he had only distributed fresh leaves to friends, without selling any.
Following his arrest, Vasanth was remanded in judicial custody after appearing before a local court in Tirupattur. A further investigation into the matter is underway.
