Sat Nov 23 17:07:07 UTC 2024: ## Aaditya Thackeray Wins Worli in Close Contest; Reduced Margin Highlights Shifting Political Landscape
**Mumbai, India** – Aaditya Thackeray, son of Uddhav Thackeray, secured victory in the Worli constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, defeating former Congress MP Milind Deora, who had defected to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. While Thackeray emerged victorious, his margin of victory was significantly reduced compared to the 2019 elections, indicating a shift in the political landscape.
Thackeray won by 8,801 votes, a stark contrast to his 2019 win by over 67,000 votes. Deora, campaigning against a formidable team within Thackeray’s Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), conceded the election on social media, highlighting the impressive opposition he faced. He attributed part of Thackeray’s reduced margin to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) splitting the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) vote.
The Worli constituency, part of the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat, holds historical significance for the Deora family, who held the parliamentary seat for several terms. The recent election reflects a change in the constituency’s political allegiance.
Despite Aaditya Thackeray’s win, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance retained power in Maharashtra, securing a substantial majority in the assembly elections. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Thackeray’s party, fell short of its goal to unseat the ruling coalition. Preliminary results show BJP leading in over 100 seats, with Shiv Sena (UBT) winning around 50 seats, and NCP also winning a significant number of seats.
