**KOCHI, INDIA – November 23, 2024** – Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has secured a resounding victory in the Wayanad by-election, surpassing even her brother Rahul Gandhi’s previous margin of victory. With over 6 lakh votes, she defeated CPI veteran Sathyan Mokeri by a margin exceeding 4 lakh votes.

Vadra’s win fills the vacancy left by Rahul Gandhi, who chose to retain his seat in Rae Bareli after winning both constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi had previously won Wayanad with a margin of over 3.65 lakh votes in 2024, and 4.3 lakh votes in 2019.

Expressing gratitude to the voters, Vadra pledged to represent their hopes and dreams in Parliament. She acknowledged the support of her party colleagues and family, including her mother Sonia Gandhi, brother Rahul Gandhi, and husband Robert Vadra.

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi actively campaigned for Vadra in the run-up to the by-election, aiming for a victory margin exceeding 5 lakh votes. During the campaign, Rahul Gandhi promoted tourism in Wayanad, suggesting it could become Kerala’s premier tourist destination. He also stated he would remain available to the people of Wayanad, jokingly referring to the constituency having “two MPs, one of them unofficial.”

The Wayanad by-election results come amidst other election results across India, including assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, and by-elections across 15 states. The Congress party views Vadra’s victory as a bright spot, particularly in contrast to recent setbacks in states like Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
