**Wayanad, Kerala –** Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has secured a resounding victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, marking a successful electoral debut for the Congress leader. With over 6.22 lakh votes, she defeated CPI candidate Sathyan Mokeri (2.11 lakh votes) and BJP’s Navya Haridas (1.09 lakh votes) by a margin of 4.1 lakh votes – surpassing her brother Rahul Gandhi’s previous record margin in the constituency.
The win comes despite a lower than expected voter turnout of approximately 65%, a drop from the 74% seen in the April Lok Sabha elections and significantly lower than the 80%+ turnout in 2019. The by-election was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi chose to retain his Rae Bareli seat following his victory in both constituencies earlier this year.
Rahul Gandhi actively campaigned for his sister, expressing confidence in her ability to connect with the people of Wayanad. The by-elections, held across 48 assembly seats in 14 states and two Lok Sabha seats (Wayanad and Maharashtra’s Nanded), concluded their vote counting earlier today.
