Sat Nov 23 14:13:59 UTC 2024: ## Raj Thackeray’s Son Enters Maharashtra Assembly Race, Facing Stiff Competition
**Mumbai, India** – Amit Thackeray, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, has entered the fray in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, contesting from the Mahim constituency. This marks a significant step for the Thackeray family, as Raj Thackeray, unlike his cousin Balasaheb Thackeray, has never held elected office.
Amit Thackeray faces a challenging race against two Shiv Sena candidates: Mahesh Sawant and incumbent Sada Sarvankar, who won the seat in 2014 and 2019. His MNS party is allied with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, adding another layer of complexity to the contest. Sarvankar has refused to withdraw from the race.
Unlike his cousin, Aditya Thackeray (son of Uddhav Thackeray and a prominent Shiv Sena (UBT) leader), Amit has largely stayed out of the public eye until now. His foray into politics is viewed as an attempt to secure the family’s political legacy. Aditya Thackeray, who previously served as a minister, won the Worli constituency in 2019 – a seat MNS notably left uncontested.
Amit Thackeray, who holds a postgraduate degree in Management Studies and declares assets worth ₹16 crore and liabilities of ₹4 crore, lists his occupation as business and agriculture. His election campaign has already sparked intense rivalry, with Aditya Thackeray recently campaigning in Mahim and criticizing the MNS. Amit’s own campaign has focused on his cultural identity, stating, “Culture is in-born; one cannot assume it.”
