Sat Nov 23 14:14:38 UTC 2024: ## Ajit Pawar Wins Baramati by Landslide in Maharashtra Election
**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar secured a resounding victory in the Baramati constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, defeating his nephew Yugendra Pawar by a massive margin of 100,899 votes. The final tally saw Ajit Pawar garnering 181,132 votes to Yugendra Pawar’s 80,233.
The election was highly anticipated, framed as a family feud between Ajit Pawar and his uncle, Sharad Pawar, who had fielded Yugendra. Ajit Pawar’s victory is seen as a significant win for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, of which his faction of the NCP is a part. His strong showing in Baramati comes amidst a broader Mahayuti victory, with the alliance predicted to secure a majority of seats in the state assembly.
Ajit Pawar, who has served as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra four times, has long aspired to the Chief Minister’s post. While his personal success is notable, the overall performance of his NCP faction within the Mahayuti will ultimately determine his chances of fulfilling this ambition. He acknowledged the alliance’s success, thanking the people of Maharashtra and emphasizing their collaborative work towards the state’s development.
The election saw a high level of campaigning, with Ajit Pawar holding numerous rallies and roadshows in the constituency in the lead-up to the vote. His wife, Sunetra Pawar, expressed gratitude to the people of Baramati for their support. Despite initial concerns about EVMs raised by some, Ajit Pawar expressed confidence in the election process and the Mahayuti’s continued collaboration. Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated both Ajit Pawar and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on the Mahayuti’s success.
