**Jaipur, Rajasthan:** The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a landslide victory in the recent Rajasthan Assembly by-elections, securing five out of the seven contested seats. The Congress party, which previously held four of the seats, managed to retain only one – Dosa. The by-elections were necessitated by five MLAs becoming MPs and two due to the demise of sitting MLAs.
BJP’s wins included Jhunjhunu, Khinwsar, Devli-Uniyara, Salumber, and Ramgarh. Notable defeats for the Congress included the loss of Jhunjhunu to BJP’s Rajendra Bhambhu (defeating Congress MP Brijendra Ola’s son), and Khinwsar where BJP’s Revantram Danga defeated Hanuman Beniwal’s wife Kanika Beniwal by over 13,000 votes. The Congress candidate in Khinwsar lost their security deposit. In Salumber, BJP’s Shanta Meena secured a last-minute victory. The only non-BJP win was in Chaurasi, where the Bharatiya Adivasi Party (BAP) candidate Anil Kumar Katara emerged victorious.
The results delivered a significant blow to the Congress, particularly in Dosa where Minister Kirorilal Meena’s brother, Jagmohan Meena, suffered a shocking defeat. A visibly upset Kirorilal Meena took to social media, accusing his own party members of sabotage and hinting at serious allegations against BJP leaders. He attributed his brother’s loss to a lack of sycophancy within his political career.
The by-election results showcase a considerable shift in favor of the BJP in Rajasthan, highlighting the party’s strong position ahead of future elections.
