**Jaipur, [Date of Publication]:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Rajasthan Assembly by-elections, winning five out of the seven seats contested on Saturday. The results mark a significant setback for the ruling Congress party and other contenders.
The BJP’s wins include the constituencies of Jhunjhunu, Kheewasar, Deoli-Uniyara, Salumber, and Ramgarh. Notable defeats for the opposition included Congress MLA candidate Amit Ola (son of Congress MP Brijendra Ola) in Jhunjhunu and Kanika Beniwal (wife of independent MP Hanuman Beniwal) in Kheewasar. In Kheewasar, BJP’s Revantram Danga defeated Beniwal by over 13,000 votes, while Congress candidate Dr. Ratan Chaudhary lost his deposit. The Congress managed to retain only the Dosa seat, while the Bharatiya Adiwasi Party (BAP) secured the Chourasi seat.
The by-elections were necessitated by five sitting MLAs becoming Members of Parliament and the demise of two others. The BJP, which won five of the seats, had initially held one of the seats before the by-elections; Congress had four, one seat was with BAP, and one with RLP (Hanuman Beniwal’s party). The results also saw the defeat of Minister Kirodilal Meena’s brother, Jagmohan Meena, in Dosa. In a close contest, BJP’s Shanta Mina snatched victory in Salumber in the final round of counting, defeating the BAP candidate.
The BJP’s winning candidates were Rajendra Bhambu (Jhunjhunu), Rajendra Gurjar (Deoli-Uniyara), Sukhwant Singh (Ramgarh), and Din Dayal Barwa (Dosa) for Congress. Anil Kumar Katara of BAP won the Chourasi seat. The results paint a clear picture of BJP’s growing dominance in the state.
