Sat Nov 23 12:35:08 UTC 2024: ## Hemant Soren Wins Barhait Seat by Landslide Victory
**Ranchi, Jharkhand:** Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren secured a resounding victory in the Barhait assembly constituency, winning by a massive margin of 39,416 votes. This marks his third consecutive win from this seat, considered a JMM stronghold since the formation of Jharkhand in 2000.
Soren, contesting on a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) ticket, defeated BJP candidate Gamaliel Hembrom. This win continues the JMM’s unbroken dominance in Barhait, a seat Soren has held since 2014. In the 2019 elections, he defeated BJP’s Simon Mahto. His victory this time solidifies his position as a leading figure in Jharkhand politics.
While the BJP fielded Hembrom, a candidate who previously belonged to the AJSU party, he received significantly fewer votes compared to the BJP’s 2019 candidate, Simon Mahto, who garnered over 48,000 votes. Mahto, reportedly unhappy with the BJP’s decision not to renominate him, has since joined the JMM.
The election results in Barhait showcase the continued popularity of Chief Minister Soren and the JMM in the region. The large victory margin demonstrates the strong support he enjoys amongst the electorate.
