**Srinagar, November 22, 2024** – Srinagar experienced its coldest night of the season so far on Friday, with temperatures plummeting to a bone-chilling minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. This marks a significant drop from the previous night’s minus 0.4 degrees Celsius and is 1.3 degrees below the average for this time of year. The frigid conditions forced residents to resort to burning polythene bags to stay warm.

The extreme cold gripped much of Kashmir, with several areas experiencing sub-zero temperatures for the third consecutive night. Pahalgam recorded the lowest temperature in the valley at minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund registered minus 1.4 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg and Kupwara also experienced sub-zero temperatures. Kokernag was the only area to remain above freezing, at 0.4 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain or thunderstorms in isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with a possibility of light rain or snow in higher reaches over the next two days.
