**Amersham, England** – A private funeral service was held Wednesday for Liam Payne, the One Direction singer who died last month following a fall from a hotel in Palermo. Fellow One Direction members Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson were among the mourners who attended the service in Amersham, England.

Payne’s casket arrived at the church in a white horse-drawn carriage. Other attendees included Payne’s parents, Geoff and Karen Payne; his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy; and several high-profile figures such as Simon Cowell, James Corden, Jamie Scott, and Rochelle Humes. Girls Aloud members Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts also offered their support to Cheryl Cole, Payne’s ex-partner and mother of his 7-year-old son.

While the service was closed to the public, fans gathered outside the venue to pay their respects. Many had already participated in memorials and vigils around the world following Payne’s death on October 16th. An autopsy revealed Payne died from multiple traumas, including internal and external bleeding and a cranial injury sustained in the fall. Three individuals – a friend of Payne’s, a hotel worker, and an alleged drug dealer – have been charged with supplying him with drugs prior to his death.

One Direction, who have been on hiatus since 2016, released a joint statement following Payne’s death, marking their first official social media post since July 2020. Cole also issued a statement, pleading for privacy and respect for Payne’s family and son as they grieve. She highlighted the devastating impact of the loss on her son, emphasizing Payne’s humanity beyond his celebrity status.
