**New Delhi, November 22, 2024** – BJP National President J.P. Nadda launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of actively supporting foreign forces seeking to undermine India’s progress and specifically blaming the Congress for the ongoing violence in Manipur. In a strongly worded letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Nadda responded to Kharge’s earlier communication to President Droupadi Murmu concerning the Manipur situation.
Nadda refuted the Congress’s narrative on the Manipur crisis, asserting that the current problems are a direct consequence of the Congress’s governance failures in the 1990s and during the UPA era. He highlighted the significant improvements in the Northeast region under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past decade, citing progress in various sectors including the economy, security, healthcare, and education. He pointed to a significant reduction in multidimensional poverty in Manipur, from over 20% in 2013 to just over 5% in 2022, as evidence of the BJP government’s success.
Nadda further accused the Congress of exploiting the situation in Manipur for political gain, alleging that the party’s rule in Manipur was marked by a bloody period in the 1990s with thousands killed and lakhs displaced. He also cited a 120-day blockade in 2011 under Congress rule, resulting in exorbitant fuel prices and significant financial losses. He contrasted this with the BJP government’s swift response to the current violence, emphasizing the deployment of resources and personnel to restore peace and order, including investigations by the National Investigation Agency.
Nadda leveled serious allegations against the Congress, claiming that the party, under former Home Minister P. Chidambaram, had signed treaties with foreign militants and legitimized their illegal entry into India. He characterized this as a major factor contributing to the current instability in Manipur. He concluded by expressing concern over the Congress’s alleged pattern of supporting foreign forces aiming to destabilize India, questioning whether this was due to a thirst for power or a deliberate strategy to undermine the nation’s democracy.
