**Perth, Australia:** India’s tour of Australia got off to a shaky start on day one of the first Test match in Perth. The Australian bowlers dominated the Indian batting line-up, reducing them to 119/6 by the close of play.
The Indian innings began disastrously, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal both dismissed without scoring. Further setbacks followed, with Virat Kohli falling for 5 runs and KL Rahul departing after a 26-run innings, the dismissal of which sparked controversy due to a questionable caught-behind decision. Dhruv Jurel (11) and Washington Sundar (4) also offered little resistance.
While the Indian team looked to be heading for a sub-100 total, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy offered some late-order defiance, pushing the score past the 100-run mark before the close.
The match marks the debut of two Indian players, fast bowler Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Jasprit Bumrah is captaining the side in the absence of the regular captain, Rohit Sharma. Several other changes were made to the team composition compared to the last Test match played against New Zealand.
Australia’s bowling attack was led by Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, who both took two wickets each. Nathan Lyon, introduced later in the day, also played a key role in India’s struggles.
Despite the strong start for Australia, the match remains open, with India hoping for a strong second day to recover from their early setbacks. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is up for grabs, and the contest promises to be fiercely competitive throughout the series.
