Fri Nov 22 05:00:32 UTC 2024: ## Bihar School Principal and Teacher Arrested for Showing Up Drunk to Work

**Nalanda, Bihar –** A school principal and teacher in Bihar’s Nalanda district were arrested earlier this week for appearing at work heavily intoxicated, highlighting the ongoing challenges in enforcing the state’s 2016 liquor ban.

Nagendra Prasad, the principal, and Subodh Kumar, a contractual teacher, exhibited erratic and unprofessional behavior, prompting concerned villagers to intervene. Witnesses reported that the pair verbally abused villagers who attempted to address their condition. A video circulating on social media shows the pair appearing visibly drunk, with the teacher even collapsing. Police were called to the scene, and the teacher was subsequently dragged to a police van. The situation escalated further when villagers accused a police officer of also being intoxicated, leading to his removal from the scene.

Both Prasad and Kumar were arrested and confirmed to be under the influence of alcohol. They have since been suspended from their positions at the government school. The incident underscores the continued struggle to uphold the state’s prohibition law.
