**Brasília, Brazil** – Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil to review progress on recent disengagement efforts along the India-China border. The meeting, mandated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit last month, follows the completion of the final phase of disengagement on October 21.
The two foreign ministers discussed next steps in bilateral relations and the potential scheduling of an early meeting between their special representatives. This engagement marks a significant step towards de-escalating tensions following the prolonged military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, which culminated in the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020.
In other news from the G20, Misri highlighted the launch of a new India-Australia Renewable Energy Partnership. This initiative, announced during the 2nd India-Australia Annual Summit between Prime Minister Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, aims to boost two-way investment in solar PV, green hydrogen, and energy storage. Discussions also included preparations for the upcoming QUAD Summit, scheduled for 2025 in India.
