**Mumbai, Maharashtra –** Maharashtra is holding its assembly elections today, with voting underway for all 288 seats. As of 1 pm, the state has recorded a voter turnout of 32.18 percent, significantly lower than the 61.4 percent recorded in 2019. However, turnout varies widely across the state.
Gadchiroli district leads with a substantial 50.89 percent turnout, exceeding even its own impressive 30 percent turnout in the first four hours. In contrast, Mumbai, the state’s financial capital, lags behind with a significantly lower turnout. Mumbai city recorded 27.73 percent, and suburban Mumbai, 30.43 percent. Individual assembly segments within Mumbai showed even lower figures, with Colaba recording a mere 13.03 percent by 11 am.
Turnout in constituencies of prominent political figures also remains relatively low. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s constituency saw 18.22 percent turnout, while Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s constituency recorded 19.91 percent. The Baramati constituency, where a high-profile contest between Ajit Pawar and his nephew is taking place, registered 18.81 percent. The Election Commission continues to monitor voting progress throughout the day.
