Wed Nov 20 06:15:44 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Mahayuti Confident of Landslide Victory Amidst Allegations and High Voter Turnout

**Mumbai, November 8, 2024** – Maharashtra witnessed a high voter turnout on Wednesday as the state went to the polls for its Assembly elections. While the day saw a flurry of activity with prominent figures from across the political spectrum casting their votes and urging citizens to participate, the election was also marked by a series of allegations and counter-allegations.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed unwavering confidence in the Mahayuti alliance’s victory, predicting a “huge majority.” He highlighted the developmental work undertaken by the current government and contrasted it with the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) administration. Union Minister Piyush Goyal echoed this sentiment, predicting a Mahayuti sweep in North Mumbai and condemning divisive forces. Other BJP leaders, including Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, also voiced optimism.

However, the elections were overshadowed by allegations of cash distribution against BJP leader Vinod Tawde. While the BJP vehemently denied these claims, calling them a “planned conspiracy,” the opposition MVA and several individuals accused Tawde of distributing money to voters. The BJP also leveled serious allegations against NCP’s Supriya Sule and Congress’s Nana Patole, accusing them of using “illegal bitcoin activities” to fund their campaigns. Both Sule and Patole strongly denied these allegations, with Sule filing a defamation notice against BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi. The matter has sparked calls for thorough investigation.

The day saw a diverse range of personalities casting their votes, including Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar, Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar, and several other film personalities and political leaders. Many urged high voter participation, emphasizing the importance of exercising democratic rights.

Despite the controversies, the Election Commission reported a steady voter turnout throughout the day, exceeding expectations in several areas. The final results are expected on November 23rd. The election saw a clear battle line drawn between the Mahayuti alliance and the MVA, with both sides confident of forming the next government.
