Wed Nov 20 00:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Charley Hull Calls for Tougher Penalties for Slow Play on LPGA Tour

**Belleair, FL** – LPGA star Charley Hull has launched a scathing attack on slow play, calling it “ridiculous” and advocating for stricter penalties, including expulsion from the tour, for repeat offenders. Hull’s comments follow a frustrating third round at the Annika Sörenstam event in Florida, where she and other players finished their rounds in near darkness due to the slow pace of play.

“We were out there for five hours and 40 minutes,” Hull stated, highlighting the excessive playing time. She contrasted this with faster rounds achieved in amateur four-ball events, emphasizing the unacceptable length of professional rounds.

While referees possess the authority to penalize slow play, sanctions are rarely enforced at the highest level. Hull, known for her quick playing style, proposed a three-strikes-you’re-out policy: three slow-play penalties resulting in immediate loss of Tour membership. “I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up,” she commented.

This issue isn’t new to the LPGA. In 2023, the tour reduced the number of weekend players to accelerate play, and similar complaints have been voiced in previous years. Even world No. 1 Nelly Korda acknowledged the problematic third-round conditions in Florida, attributing some of the delays to poor scheduling.

Meanwhile, in separate news, Sergio García will rejoin the DP World Tour after a period with LIV Golf, aiming for a potential 11th Ryder Cup appearance. Despite substantial fines and a suspension, García’s return was confirmed after he submitted his application and paid his dues. He will, however, serve his suspension before resuming play.
