Wed Nov 20 11:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Louisville Could See First Snow Before Thanksgiving, But Don’t Expect a Blizzard
**Louisville, KY [Date of Publication]** – Louisville residents may get a taste of winter sooner than expected. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a possibility of light snow showers as early as Thursday morning, bringing the city’s first snowfall of the season before Thanksgiving.
However, NWS meteorologist Adrian Lopez Lago cautions against excitement. Any snowfall is expected to be light and wet, primarily accumulating on elevated surfaces. “It will likely melt after contact,” Lopez Lago said, adding that any accumulation is more likely Thursday night into Friday morning. Warmer temperatures in the 40s are predicted for Thursday and Friday afternoons, quickly melting any lingering snow.
The potential snowfall follows a period of gusty rain showers and warmer-than-usual temperatures earlier in the week, with highs reaching the 70s on Tuesday. A significant temperature drop is expected Tuesday night, bringing typical fall temperatures. Strong winds, with gusts up to 40 mph, are also forecast for Thursday.
While the NWS forecast currently doesn’t extend beyond the weekend, a long-term outlook suggests above-normal temperatures for Kentucky and southern Indiana throughout the remainder of November. Louisville’s average high temperature in November is around 50 degrees. Therefore, any snowfall is likely to be a fleeting event.
