Wed Nov 20 08:13:54 UTC 2024: ## Iran Offers to Halt Uranium Stockpile Growth, Warns Europe Against IAEA Censure

**Vienna/Tehran –** Iran has offered to stop expanding its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, a move reportedly made during a recent visit by the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi. However, Tehran simultaneously warned three European nations – France, Germany, and the United Kingdom (E3) – against pursuing a new censure resolution at the IAEA board meeting.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the E3’s efforts to pass a fourth resolution since 2020, stating that such a move contradicts the positive atmosphere fostered by recent engagements between Iran and the IAEA. He warned of a proportionate response should the resolution proceed.

Leaked IAEA reports indicate that Iran has begun implementing measures to cap its stockpile of 60% enriched uranium – close to weapons-grade – at approximately 185kg. This offer, reportedly made during Grossi’s visit, included access to sensitive Iranian nuclear sites. While Iran possesses enough fissile material for multiple nuclear weapons, it maintains it does not seek nuclear weapons, a claim supported by the IAEA and Western intelligence.

The E3’s proposed censure comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions, including the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Iran further criticized new European sanctions targeting Iranian airlines and shipping companies, accusing the West of supporting the “genocide” in Gaza and supplying weapons to Ukraine. China and Russia have consistently opposed previous censure attempts against Iran. The situation remains tense, with the outcome of the IAEA board meeting and Iran’s response hanging in the balance.
