Wed Nov 20 08:31:45 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad’s Sewage Management Drive Shows Significant Success

**Hyderabad, November 20, 2024** – A 90-day special drive launched by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to improve sewage management is showing significant results, according to a review conducted on Tuesday. The drive, which began October 2nd, has led to a substantial decrease in customer complaints regarding sewage blockages and overflows.

HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy lauded the efforts of his staff, highlighting the impressive figures achieved in just 46 days. Over 1000 km of sewerage pipelines have been de-silted across 8,000 locations, and 80,000 manholes have been cleaned.

The impact is clearly visible in reduced complaints. Kukatpally, for example, saw a 43% decrease in sewage choking complaints – from 559 in September to 258 in October. Similar reductions were observed in other divisions, including Charminar (34%), Riyasath Nagar (34%), Durgam Cheruvu (28%), and Quthbullapur (31%). Durgam Cheruvu also experienced a 39% drop in sewage overflow complaints.

Mr. Reddy emphasized that the drive has focused on resolving long-pending issues and that the decrease in complaints serves as a key indicator of the Board’s improved performance. He urged officials to maintain this momentum through continuous monitoring and data updates until the drive concludes in December. Ten high-performing divisions were recognized for their outstanding contributions.
