The main event, held in Jammu, saw party president Tariq Hameed Karra hail Indira Gandhi as a symbol of women’s empowerment and a visionary leader who championed unity in diversity and secularism.
Karra highlighted her contributions to India’s welfare, particularly for the poor and marginalized, and lauded her role in the Bangladesh Liberation War and the signing of the Shimla Agreement. He emphasized the need to counter communal forces threatening national unity, echoing the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. Other senior Congress leaders, including Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla, echoed these sentiments, praising her achievements in strengthening national defense and securing 33% reservation for women in local bodies through constitutional amendments.
