Wed Nov 20 03:42:28 UTC 2024: ## Argentina’s Attack Stalls Against Peru in Goalless First Half of World Cup Qualifier

**Buenos Aires** – Argentina dominated possession but failed to break down a resolute Peru defense in a goalless first half of their crucial World Cup qualifier. Despite numerous chances created by the attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, and Julián Álvarez, Argentina couldn’t find the back of the net.

Messi, in particular, was involved in several promising moves, including a free-kick in the 18th minute and another close attempt in the 13th minute, but the Peruvian goalkeeper, Pedro Gallese, remained unchallenged. Álvarez also had a couple of near misses, with one shot hitting the post and another over-head attempt narrowly missing the target.

While Argentina’s attack pressed relentlessly, Peru, led by captain Paolo Guerrero, offered only sporadic threats. The Argentine defense, anchored by Otamendi and González Montiel, handled these attacks with relative ease. A late free-kick by Messi in the 43rd minute was also saved by Gallese. The only card of the half was a yellow shown to Argentina’s Micahel Araujo for a foul on Álvarez.

The match continues, with Argentina needing a win to solidify their World Cup qualification hopes. Meanwhile, the Brazil vs. Uruguay match is also underway with neither team scoring in the opening stages.
