Wed Nov 20 02:15:51 UTC 2024: ## Last-Minute Maharashtra Election Controversy: BJP Leader Accused of Bribery

**Mumbai, India –** A major political controversy erupted in Maharashtra just one day before the state assembly elections. BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde is accused of distributing money to influence voters. The allegations surfaced after a video went viral on social media, purportedly showing people waving cash outside a hotel in Nalasopara, Palghar district, where Tawde was reportedly holding a meeting.

The accusations were made by members of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), who staged protests in Virar, alleging that Tawde was distributing bribes. BVA MLA Kshitij Thakur and his supporters were among those involved in the protest outside the hotel. Police have confirmed the incident and stated that two FIRs have been filed. One is related to the alleged bribery, and another concerns an unauthorized press conference. Cash and diaries were reportedly recovered from the scene.

Tawde has vehemently denied the allegations, calling for an impartial investigation by the Election Commission. He claims the money shown in the videos was not related to him and that his presence at the hotel was for a routine meeting related to election preparedness. The Election Commission and police are investigating.

The controversy escalated further when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the source of the money. Other opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheban) leader Sanjay Raut and NCP leader Clyde Crasto, also condemned the alleged act and demanded a thorough investigation. The BJP has defended Tawde, attributing the allegations to attempts by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to create a negative atmosphere.

The single-phase polling for Maharashtra’s 288 assembly seats is scheduled for November 20th, with results to be announced on November 23rd. The controversy promises to cast a long shadow over the final hours of campaigning.
