Mon Nov 18 21:25:56 UTC 2024: ## Wild Gaur Causes Panic in Munnar Town

**MUNNAR, INDIA (November 19, 2024)** – A wild gaur caused a stir in Munnar town on Monday evening, November 18, prompting a frantic escape by tourists and shopkeepers. The large bovine animal, reportedly emerging from the High Range Hospital road near the Nallathanni Bridge around 5:30 p.m., created a tense situation as it wandered through the town for approximately an hour.

According to Sojan G., coordinator of My Munnar Movement, the gaur attempted to enter a spice shop, forcing the owner to quickly close the shutters. Several tourists were inside at the time, narrowly avoiding a potentially dangerous encounter. Forest department officials eventually intervened, successfully driving the animal away.

This incident follows two separate gaur attacks on tea plantation workers over the weekend. On Sunday, a 47-year-old worker was seriously injured, and on Monday, a 53-year-old woman, Shilamparasi, sustained injuries while working in a tea plantation near Peerumade. Shilamparasi was transferred to Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment after initial care at Peerumade taluk hospital. Residents report an increase in gaur sightings in recent days.
