Mon Nov 18 23:15:11 UTC 2024: ## Scotland Edges Poland in Thriller, Faces Relegation Playoff

**Gdansk, Poland –** Scotland secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Poland in their final UEFA Nations League Group A1 match on Monday, November 19th, thanks to a last-minute header from Andy Robertson. The win, however, sends Scotland into a relegation playoff while condemning Poland to relegation to League B.

John McGinn opened the scoring for Scotland early in the match with a well-placed shot. Poland equalized in the 59th minute through Kamil Piatkowski, his first international goal. However, in stoppage time, Robertson’s header, deflecting off the post, sealed the victory for the Scots.

Despite playing in the top tier of the Nations League for the first time, Scotland finished third in the group with seven points, three ahead of Poland. Portugal won the group with 14 points, while Croatia secured a place in the quarterfinals with a draw against Portugal.

Scotland will now face a two-legged playoff in March 2025 against an opponent to be determined in Friday’s draw, fighting to maintain its place in League A. The match was a thrilling encounter, with both teams creating numerous chances throughout the game. Poland’s attack, missing star Robert Lewandowski, pushed hard but ultimately fell short.
